HO Scale Train Layouts

HO Scale Trains Layouts are the most popular sets today. The 1:87 scale seems to be the favorite for most households and hobbyist. I myself have a HO layout of wonderful valleys, hills, and buildings. It is a way to transport you to a world of make believe. My stress melts away every time I begin to play with my little corner of the world.

Due to its popularity, there are many manufacturers of HO scale trains and accessories. From every building imaginable to unique cars and people, you can create almost anything with an HO scale layout. Prices of pieces for this scale are moderate due to its popularity and mass production. Another good reason to add HO scale train layouts to your collection.

A big advantage for using a  HO scale is the different kinds of track available. Traditional brass track has been used as a good conductor of electricity. Today most manufacturers use nickel-silver alloy to build their model railroad layouts.  Flexitrack was introduced for HO, which allows the model railroader to create realistic looking tracks without the tight turns.

If you are just getting started in model railroading I would suggest you start with HO scale train layouts. There are many starter kits available in this size and are readably available over the internet and at your local toy store. Trains and accessories are inexpensive, with themes almost limitless. You will not be disappointed with a HO scale design and if you want to trade up or move to a different scale you will have no trouble selling your set to a hobbyist.

A must have book for limitless design ideas is One Hundred and One Track Plans for Model Railroaders (Model Railroad Handbook, No. 3) With easy-to-use plans this book demonstrates how to design a miniature railroad to fit any space, and shows how to convert plans to N, HO, S, and O scales. Another publication to add to your library should be HO Railroad from Start to Finish (Model Railroad Handbook, No 36). This book covers basic set up and operation and everything you need to know to get going with a HO scale set. Both books contain ideas and layouts for the beginner and advanced hobbyist.

You will have many hours of enjoyment with HO scale train layouts. you can change layouts and designs as easily as you change your mind, or even change with the different seasons of the year. Start today and you won't be able to stop.
